Sai Kung-style teaching

Our school is located next to Sai Kung, boasting beautiful mountain and water scenery and rich wildlife. Many students choose to relax at Sai Kung Pier during their free time.   Our school leverages its unique geographical environment to connect Sai Kung's distinctive features with courses from different disciplines, enabling students to deepen their understanding of Sai Kung while learning and increasing their sense of belonging to the school and community.

Course Examples

Landscape Literature Writing in Chinese Language and Literature

When learning the unit on descriptive landscapes, Form Two students will use virtual reality teaching materials to experience the scenery of Saigon and complete a descriptive essay based on what they have learned.   Students can learn about the unique characteristics of Hong Kong landscape literature, appreciate the beauty of Sai Kung's scenery, and learn how to describe beautiful scenery in words. The activity can enhance students' writing confidence and interest.

Corsigothic Exploration Challenge (English):

In the Food and Travel & Sightseeing Unit, students will be divided into groups to conduct field trips to downtown Saigon. During the trip, students will visit local restaurants and conduct interviews with their staff, tourists, or local residents in English.

Students will be required to write a restaurant review or a social media post recounting their travel experience after the visit. Students will be able to explore the culture and customs of Saigon, practice their spoken English, and learn how to use newly acquired vocabulary in their writing.

Chinese History Course: Visit to the Tin Hau Temple in Saigon

Secondary 2 students will visit the Tin Hau Temple in Sai Kung to explore its cultural and historical significance, understand the relationship between sea goddess worship and fishermen's culture, and connect with Sai Kung's community spirit and values education, such as mutual assistance, respect for tradition, and diversity and inclusion.

Economic inquiry-based learning activities

The teacher will guide students to use AI to collect data and explore the success story of Honeymoon Dessert, which has grown from a small shop in Saigon into an international enterprise. Students will also need to conduct on-site investigations of coffee shops in Saigon, analyze their business models using economic theories, and connect the theories with local economic activities.

Interdisciplinary courses in music and visual arts

Junior secondary students will learn to sing and analyze the "Sai Kung Village Ode" from the Sai Kung Suite in the music class, and understand its melody, rhythm and lyrical features; then they will write short lyrics using the characteristics of Sai Kung villages or communities, and perform them in the form of "counting white olives".

Next, the students will use the lyrics of "Sai Kung Suite" and the color theory they have learned in the Visual Arts class to create a Sai Kung village sign in plastic paint to express that Sai Kung is an ideal place to live - Cheng Chi Middle School is also located in it.
